Nic Roldan’s Inaugural UK
Sunset Polo, Cowdray 2017

World leading Equestrian stars came together for Nic Roldan's Inaugural UK Sunset Polo at Cowdray

On Tuesday, June 20th 2017 Top American Polo Player and Brooke USA ambassador Nic Roldan held the first Global edition of Sunset Polo, in the form of “Nic Roldan’s UK Sunset Polo” at the ancestral home of British Polo: Cowdray House in West Sussex. Monty Roberts, world renowned natural horseman, gave a Horse Sense and Healing demonstration, whilst Olympic Gold medalist Scott Brash made his polo debut alongside Roldan scoring no less than 3 goals in what was billed to be 2017’s hottest equestrian ticket and welcomed some 800 guests.

Nic was thrilled to host the event on a spectacular Midsummer’s afternoon on the original polo field in the grounds of Cowdray House. It provided a magical setting. It was an event to remembe for all, and continued his mission to raise awareness and funds for both Brooke (Registered Charity No. 1085760) and the Chestnut Tree House (Registered Charity No. 256789). Brooke is the world’s largest international equine welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules and those who rely on them through veterinary treatment and community programmes in the world’s poorest communities. Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire and cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions.

The event included some high calibre equestrian displays:

  • Monty Roberts, gave a Horse Sense and Healing demonstration in which he combined his Join-Up® methods with empowering veterans suffering from post trau-matic stress.
  • A western reining display by top UK Reiner Tammy Greaves.
  • The Sunset Polo game saw top professionals as well as up and coming players join Roldan. GSA came out the winners on top of Engel & Völkers 6-5, MVP: Rufino Merlos, BPP: Pilar played by Rufino Merlos. (MVP & BPP were judged by Peter Barfoot).
  • The much anticipated celebrity chukker including Gold Medal Olympians Scott Brash and Victoria Pendleton, UK number one 3-day eventer William Fox Pitt, 2 time Grand National Winner Leighton Aspell and the formidable Wocket Woy all pick up a mallet for charity. As the bell sounded to mark the end of the game The Lickfold Inn ran away the winner 3-0 over Ainsley Polo, MVP: Scott Brash.

There were both silent and live auctions with five exceptional lots, followed by an amazing firework display.

Three tiers of tickets were on sale, General admittance, Luxury Afternoon Tea and All inclusive VIP packages where Cowdray House was the venue for an exceptional dinner provided by the The Lickfold Inn team, which is overseen by Michelin Star Chef Tom Sellers.

Equestrian displays of the highest calibre, world class food, a magical venue on a British Midsummer’s night and all for two great causes. This was one date that was not be missed in your summer plans and we very much look forward to welcoming you on June 19th 2018 to the second edition.
