Competing with the Dubai Polo Team in England

With polo season in Wellington now over, I’ve flown to England were I’ve been playing on the Dubai Polo Team. So far we are 2 and 1 after
winning today which should hopefully put us in the semifinals of the Royal Windsor. The Al Habtoor Royal Windsor Cup Finals will be
held Sunday, June 24 at Guards Polo Club and it’s the premier medium-goal tournament in England.

I’ve been playing with Martin Valent, Rashid Albwardy, Sheikha Maitha al Maktoum and Ali Saeed Albwardy (who substituted for Sheikha Maitha al Maktoum in the first two games) at Dubai Polo Farm. Here are a few pictures from the event – I’ll let you know how it goes!

5th Annual St. Regis International Cup

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to England to play in the 5th Annual St. Regis International Cup at Great Britain’s Cowdray Park Polo Club. I was playing with the very talented US team against England. It was a really competitive and exciting match and England won 11-10.5 by defending a 60-yard penalty in the closing seconds. Our team was filled with talent and I was honored to receive MVP of the game. It’s always a great experience to play in England and I’ve been enjoying my time here.

USPA Snow Polo Championship

This weekend I’m going to Aspen to play for the Piaget team at the USPA Snow Polo Championship.  Snow polo is very different than traditional polo. First it’s played on a much smaller field. It’s slower and not as fluid as polo on a large field. Snow polo is a good spectator sport because of the size of the field. It’s a lot easier to watch and understand.  I am pumped to play in Colorado and hopefully hit the slopes too.  It will be an adrenaline packed weekend for me, can’t wait.

Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup

This weekend  I played with Piaget against Flat Out in the Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup at Grand Champions Polo Club. The game was tied 5-5 at half time and was a close call to the very end. We pulled ahead for an 11-9 final score to win the cup for team Piaget!

Its been great to be back home but, I’m excited to head to Argentina in just a few weeks where I will be competing in the Sapphire Cup and then I will be off to Aspen before returning for Palm Beach polo season.

This week I flew straight from Germany to Chicago for the kick off events to the inaugural Grey Goose Chicago Beach Polo World Cup which I had been asked to host. Grey Goose had me at the brand new PUBLIC hotel which is just beautiful.
The first event was a Grey Goose Blue Door experience for the trade where we learned a lot about Grey Goose and why it tastes so refined. It’s pretty amazing to learn what goes into making it. Grey Goose’s mixologists came up with some awesome cocktails  which were served and the recipe for my favorite cocktail is below. The event included a cooking demo by top Chicago Chef Ryan Poli. My co-host, model and Polo player Paula Chermont from Brazil and I played sous chefs which was a lot of fun.
Yesterday I hosted a media polo clinic for some of Chicago’s top media giving them the basics on how polo works. There were a few naturals in the crowd! Some jumped up on the horses and did a good job of hitting the ball.
The kick off events concluded last night with a great party. It was a real honor to host and the whole team couldn’t have been any more wonderful. Wish I could have stayed for the weekend but had to head back home to gear up for the tournaments in Wellington!

Looking Ahead

South Africa was a great experience! I was able to see an amazing place and play polo in the Bergville Mini Tournament. Soon I’ll be heading to Chicago for the Grey Goose Polo Blue Door VIP events before I head back to South Florida for some polo. Next on my schedule will be Argentina in November and some of December and Aspen snow polo in the end of December before Palm Beach polo season kicks off!

Looking forward to the next few months and some great tournaments.

Santa Barbara Season Re-cap

Santa Barbara is one of my favorite places to play polo. It was great to play this season with all of the guys on Grants Farm Manor. After some tough defeats in the Piaget Silver Cup we came back to win the 2011 America’s Cup, a huge achievement for our team. Next up was the Pacific Coast Open where we put up a fight in the play-offs but lost in overtime. Overall, it was a good season and I am proud of our team.

Next I will be headed to South Africa to compete in the Bergville mini tournament and then I head back home to South Florida before going to Argentina.

Polo Schedule

It’s been great playing out in Santa Barbara this past month, it’s one of my favorite places for polo. Nothing beats riding your horse down the beach! I’m excited for the next few locations I will be playing this year. In September I will be playing polo in South Africa and in November and December in Argentina. I’ll close out the year playing Aspen snow polo then back to Florida for Palm Beach polo season! I’m looking forward to all of my stops and another great season back at home.

The Fondation Polo Challenge

Last weekend I had the honor of captaining the US team in The Foundation Polo Challenge benefitting Prince William and Prince Harry’s charity. I’ve played with Prince William and Prince Harry a few times before but it’s always great to see them in the States. Check out some of the interviews I was I did surrounding the match below. I will be playing in Santa Barbara for the next month and look forward to competing in the Silver Cup!

Charity Polo Classic

Thank you to everybody for the support last weekend at the 2nd Annual Charity Polo Classic! It was an honor to host such a great event for Rally for Kids with Cancer. Donation numbers are still rolling in and I can’t wait to see how much was raised! I’m now in Santa Barbara, CA and will be competing in Prince William and Prince Harry’s Foundation Polo Challenge tomorrow. Check back for more updates from Santa Barbara this summer!

amfAR Gala Tonight

Tonight I’m excited to be attending the amfAR Gala as a guest of Piaget. Before hitting this big event my brother (well, almost) and famed photographer Chiun-Kai Shih introduced me to Andrew Buckler who fitted me with a great suit for tonight, then we went over to see Sei at Warren Tricomi for a great haircut. Check out some pictures from our day in the City.

Headed to Greenwich

This past week I played in two games with team Piaget, the USPA Eastern Challenge Cup and the Memorial by Piaget Tournament. Both games lead to great wins for team Piaget! It’s been great to get back on the field. Next, I will be heading to Greenwich to compete in their polo season. I’m looking forward to spending some time up North. Make sure to check back for game updates!

Summer Update

Thank you for all the support with Rally for Kids with Cancer in Miami. It was a great weekend! Check out the picture of some of my teammates with the kids. This week I was in New York getting meetings done before summer polo kicks off. I’m looking forward to playing in a few weeks but first I’ll be heading to the Kentucky Derby.

Miami Beach Polo

I’m looking forward to attending Miami Beach Polo this weekend! It’s pretty different from your typical outdoor polo match. Besides the fact that it’s played on the beach, the field is much smaller and the game is played much slower with a lighter, indoor ball. The teams are 3 on 3 instead of the 4 on 4 teams played in outdoor polo. They play by the same rules and use the same mallets and horses.

Here are some photos of when I played beach polo last year.
